매일 말씀 묵상 (QT)

독사의 자식들아 너희는 악하니 어떻게 선한 말을 할 수 있느냐 이는 마음에 가득한 것을 입으로 말함이라. 선한 사람은 그 쌓은 선에서 선한 것을 내고 악한 사람은 그 쌓은 악에서 악한 것을 내느니라 (34-35)

유대인들과 바리새인들은 자신들이 옳고 의롭다고 생각했습니다. 이러한 독선에 심취하자, 이들은 심지어 병자들을 고치고 귀신들을 사람들에게서 내쫓으신 예수님을 마귀의 왕 바알세불의 종, 또는 그의 편이라고 모함하기까지 합니다. 자신보다 선하고 의로우신 예수님을 인정할 수 없었기 때문입니다. 그들의 말에는 편견과 정죄함이 가득했습니다.

예수님은 우리가 정말 선한 사람인지 아닌지를 분별할 수 있는 방법은, 우리가 평소에 어떤 말을 하는지 보면 된다고 알려 주십니다. 왜냐하면 선한 말은 선한 마음에서 나오고, 악한 마음에서는 나올 수 없기 때문입니다.

우리는 생각보다 우리 자신을 잘 모를 수 있습니다. 그래서 우리는 평소에 우리가 어떤 말을 하는지 점검해야 합니다. 그러면 우리 안에 무엇이 쌓여 가는지, 내가 어떤 존재가 되어 가는지 알 수 있게 됩니다. 우리가 우리 자신을 더 깊이 들여다보고 이해하고 인정할 때, 하나님의 은혜로 변화되고 성장해 갈 것을 믿습니다.

기도

하나님, 날마다 내 안에 선한 마음을 주시고, 선한 입술을 주시옵소서. 아멘.

Jesus speaks a hard truth, not to crush us, but to wake us up: “The mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Our words are not random. They reveal what has been forming inside us—what we have been storing up in our hearts day after day.

In this passage, the Pharisees are so certain of their own righteousness that they cannot recognize the goodness of Jesus. Even when he heals the sick and sets people free, they twist it into suspicion and accusation. Their speech becomes harsh and condemning because their hearts have grown hardened by pride, fear, and prejudice.

Jesus teaches that one way to discern whether we are truly good people is to pay attention to what we usually say, because good words come from a good heart, and they cannot come from an evil heart.

We may not know ourselves as well as we think. That is why we need to examine the kinds of words we speak in everyday life. Then we can recognize what is being stored up within us and what kind of person we are becoming. When we look more deeply into ourselves, understand ourselves, and accept the truth about ourselves, we believe that by God’s grace we will be changed and grow.

Prayer
God, day by day, give me a good heart within me, and give me good lips. Amen.

나는 자비를 원하고 제사를 원하지 아니하노라 하신 뜻을 너희가 알았더라면 무죄한 자를 정죄하지 아니하였으리라. (7)

바리새인들은 안식일에 배가 고파 밀 이삭을 잘라 먹은 예수님의 제자들을 '율법 위반'으로 비난했습니다. 안식일에는 어떤 일도 해서는 안 된다는 규정 때문이었습니다. 본래 율법은 이스라엘 민족이 거룩한 삶을 살도록 하나님께서 주신 특별한 선물이었고, 죄로부터 그들을 지켜주는 울타리였습니다.

그러나 바리새인들은 율법을 자신의 의를 드러내거나, 타인의 잘못을 찾아 정죄하는 도구로 오용했습니다. 그들은 율법의 조항은 모두 암기하며 철저히 지킨다고 자부했지만, 정작 하나님은 형식적인 의식보다 배고프고 연약한 이들을 긍휼히 여기는 마음과 자비를 더 중요하게 여기신다는 사실을 놓치고 있었습니다. 하나님이 원하시는 것은 옳은 것을 아는 것이 아니라, 사랑을 실천하는 것입니다.

오늘 하나님의 마음이 진정으로 원하시는 것이 무엇인지, 그리고 그 마음이 나에게도 있는지 생각해 보는 하루가 되시길 바랍니다.

기도

하나님, 나에게 바리새인의 마음이 아닌, 하나님의 마음을 주시옵소서. 아멘.

“I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” If you had understood what this means, you would not have condemned the innocent. (v. 7)

One Sabbath day, Jesus’ disciples were hungry. As they walked through the grainfields, they plucked a few heads of grain to eat. But the Pharisees saw it and immediately accused them of “breaking the law.” To them, the Sabbath rule meant no work at all, and they treated that rule as the highest measure of faithfulness.

Yet God never gave the Law to become a weapon. The Law was a gift—meant to guide God’s people into a holy life and to protect them from sin, like a fence that keeps us from falling into danger. But over time, the Pharisees used the Law to prove their own righteousness and to search for reasons to condemn others. They could recite the rules, but they missed the heart of God.

Jesus reminds them—and us—of what God desires most: mercy. God cares about the hungry, the weak, the overlooked. God is not impressed by outward religion that lacks compassion. True faith doesn’t just know what is “right.” It chooses what is loving.

Today, pause and ask: What does God’s heart truly desire from me? And does my faith make room for mercy?

Prayer
Lord, give me Your heart. Keep me from using faith to judge others. Teach me to see people with compassion—especially those who are hungry, hurting, or weak. Help my worship become mercy in action. Amen.

그들이 나가서 예수의 소문을 그 온 땅에 퍼뜨리니라 (31)

어느 날, 앞을 보지 못하는 두 사람이 예수님을 찾아왔습니다. 아마도 그들은 오랫동안 사회의 소외와 차별 속에서 남모를 아픔을 겪었을 것입니다. 계속되는 좌절과 두려움은 그들의 삶을 무겁게 짓눌렀을지도 모릅니다.

하지만 예수님은 그들의 겉모습이나 사회적 지위가 아닌, 오직 그 중심에 있는 믿음만을 보시고 그들을 치유해 주셨습니다. 회복된 그들은 이제 온 땅을 누비며 예수님의 사랑을 전하는 증인들이 되었습니다.

이처럼 우리의 삶에 어려움이 있고 아픔이 있으며 부족함이 있더라도, 예수님은 우리를 소중하게 여기십니다. 그리고 우리가 예수님께 나아가 예수님을 믿을 때, 예수님은 우리를 온전하게 하십니다. 또한 우리의 삶에 풍성한 의미와 거룩한 목적을 채워 주십니다.

기도

하나님, 나약하고 부족한 저에게 믿음을 주심을 감사드립니다. 오늘도 예수님을 찬양하며, 예수님의 사랑을 전하는 빛나는 삶을 살게 하여 주시옵소서. 아멘.
“After they had gone, they spread the news about him throughout that whole region.” (v. 31)

One day, two men who could not see came to Jesus. Perhaps they had long endured hidden pain amid social isolation and discrimination. Ongoing disappointment and fear may have weighed heavily upon their lives.

But Jesus did not look at their outward appearance or social status. He looked only at the faith in their hearts and healed them. Restored, they then went throughout the land, becoming witnesses who proclaimed the love of Jesus.

In the same way, even when our lives are marked by hardship, pain, and shortcomings, Jesus regards us as precious. And when we come to Jesus and believe in him, Jesus makes us whole. He also fills our lives with rich meaning and a holy purpose.

Prayer
God, thank you for giving faith to someone as weak and lacking as me. Today again, help me to praise Jesus and live a radiant life that shares the love of Jesus. Amen.

새 포도주를 낡은 가죽 부대에 넣지 아니하나니 그렇게 하면 부대가 터져 포도주도 쏟아지고 부대도 버리게 됨이라 새 포도주는 새 부대에 넣어야 둘이 다 보전되느니라 (17)

새 포도주는 아직 발효가 진행 중이어서 많은 가스가 생깁니다. 이때 부드럽고 탄력이 있는 새 가죽 부대는 내부 압력에 따라 늘어나기 때문에 문제가 생기지 않습니다. 그러나 헌 부대는 탄력이 없어 내부 압력을 견디지 못하고 터지게 됩니다.

예수님 시절의 많은 유대인들은 과거의 율법과 전통에 얽매여 헌 가죽 부대와 같았습니다. 그래서 예수님께서 아무리 좋은 말씀을 들려주시고 기적을 보여주셔도, 그들은 이를 받아들이지 못하고 혼란스러워하거나 오히려 예수님께 적대감을 품게 되었습니다.

오늘 우리는 그들의 잘 못을 반복하지 않도록 주의해야 합니다. 우리의 마음이 굳어지고, 신앙에 고집이 생기거나, 익숙함을 추구하면 영적인 탄력을 잃게 됩니다. 그러면 하나님께서 주시는 새로운 은혜와 변화를 담아내지 못하고, 오히려 갈등과 문제가 생길 수 있습니다. 그러므로 우리 날마다 자신의 신앙이 더욱 유연해지고, 탄력을 유지할 수 있도록 점검하고, 노력해야 합니다. 그럴때 하나님께서 우리 안에 새로운 은혜와 축복을 채워주실 것을 믿습니다.

기도

하나님이 주시는 새로운 은혜와 변화를 담을 수 있도록 제 생각과 마음에 유연함과 탄력을 주옵소서. 아멘.

“No one puts new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine is put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” (v. 17)

New wine is still fermenting, so it keeps producing gas and building pressure. New wineskins are soft and flexible, so they can stretch as the pressure rises. But old wineskins have become stiff and brittle. They can’t expand anymore—so they burst, and both the wine and the skin are lost.

In Jesus’ time, many people were like those old wineskins. They were tightly bound to long-held laws and traditions. So even when Jesus spoke life-giving words and performed miracles, they struggled to receive him. Instead of being renewed, they became confused—and some even grew hostile toward him.

We need to be careful not to repeat that mistake. When our hearts harden, when we become stubborn in our faith, or when we cling only to what feels familiar and safe, we lose spiritual flexibility. Then we may miss the new grace God wants to pour into our lives, and that can lead to tension, conflict, and unnecessary problems.

So day by day, let’s examine our hearts and ask God to keep our faith soft, open, and resilient. As we do, we can trust that God will fill us with fresh grace and new blessing.

Prayer
Lord, make my heart flexible and resilient so I can receive the new grace and changes you give. Amen.

우선 1–4절에는 나병 환자가 예수님을 찾아와 도움을 청합니다. 나병은 한센병을 포함해 피부에 생기는 만성적인 질병을 가리키는 표현입니다. 나병 환자들은 병 때문에 육체적 괴로움을 겪을 뿐 아니라, 주변 사람들로부터 “부정하다”는 평가를 받아야 했기 때문에 심리적으로도 심각한 고통을 겪어야 했습니다.

그리고 5–13절에는 중풍병으로 고통받는 하인을 위해 예수님의 도움을 청하러 온 백부장의 이야기가 나옵니다. 백부장은 권력을 가진 사람이었습니다. 그래서 하인이 병에 걸리면 다른 하인을 구하면 그만이었을 수도 있습니다. 그러나 그는 직접 예수님을 찾아와 겸손히 하인을 고쳐 달라고 부탁했고, 예수님은 그의 믿음을 보시고 병든 하인을 고쳐 주셨습니다.

우리는 우리 자신의 아픔을 예수님께 가져가야 합니다. 때로는 다른 사람들에게는 친절하고 헌신적이면서도 정작 자기 자신은 돌보지 않고, 자신의 내면의 아픔과 슬픔을 외면하려는 사람들을 보게 됩니다. 예수님은 우리가 우리 자신을 잘 돌보고, 또한 예수님의 도움으로 온전해지기를 원하십니다.

또한 우리는 우리 주변의 사람들을 위해 예수님께 기도해야 합니다. “내 기도가 무슨 도움이 되겠느냐”라고 생각하기 쉽지만, 예수님은 우리의 기도를 반드시 들으시고 우리의 기도를 중요하게 여기십니다.

오늘 우리 자신을 잘 돌보고, 우리 안에 아픔이 있다면 예수님의 치료와 도움을 구하시기 바랍니다. 또 우리 주변에 고통 가운데 있거나 도움이 필요한 이들이 있다면 그들을 위해 기도하시기 바랍니다. 오늘 본문의 말씀이 우리의 삶 속에서 다시 이루어질 것을 믿습니다.

기도

하나님, 오늘도 주님의 은혜로 나를 온전케 하시고, 또한 다른 이들을 위해 기도할 수 있는 믿음을 주시옵소서. 아멘

First, in verses 1–4, a man with leprosy comes to Jesus and asks for help. “Leprosy” is a term that refers to chronic skin diseases, including Hansen’s disease. People with leprosy suffered not only physical pain from the illness, but also deep emotional distress because they were judged by others as “unclean.” Jesus heard his request and healed him.

Then, in verses 5–13, we see the story of a centurion who comes to Jesus to ask help for his servant who is suffering from paralysis. The centurion was a man of authority. If his servant became ill, he could have simply found another servant. Yet he personally came to Jesus and humbly asked him to heal his servant. When Jesus saw his faith, he healed the sick servant.

We need to bring our own pain to Jesus. Sometimes we see people who are kind and devoted to others, yet do not care for themselves, and try to ignore the wounds and sadness within their hearts. Jesus wants us to care for ourselves and to be made whole through his help.

We also need to pray to Jesus for the people around us. It is easy to think, “What difference can my prayer really make?” But Jesus surely hears our prayers and considers them important.

Today, take good care of yourself. If there is pain within you, seek Jesus’ healing and help. And if there are people around you who are suffering or in need, pray for them. Believe that the word of today’s passage will be fulfilled again in your life.

Prayer
God, by Your grace today, make me whole, and grant me the faith to pray for others as well. Amen.

좁은 문으로 들어가라 멸망으로 인도하는 문은 크고 그 길이 넓어 그리로 들어가는 자가 많고 생명으로 인도하는 문은 좁고 길이 협착하여 찾는 자가 적음이라 (13-14)

예수님은 자신을 믿고 따르는 이들에게 “좁은 문”으로 들어가라고 말씀하십니다. 좁은 문의 의미는 여러 가지로 묵상할 수 있습니다.

첫째, 좁은 문을 통과하기 위해서는 짐을 줄여야 합니다. 자동차가 지나갈 수 있는 문이라면 그 안에 내가 원하는 것, 좋아하는 것을 가득 싣고 지나갈 수 있겠지만, 좁은 문으로 들어가려면 정말 필요한 것만 추리고, 필요 없는 것들은 포기하고 버려야 합니다.

둘째, 좁은 문으로 들어가기 위해서는 외로움을 견뎌야 합니다. 넓은 문으로 가는 길은 많은 사람에게 인기가 있어 함께 가려는 이들이 많지만, 좁은 문으로 가는 길은 좁고 험하여 함께 걷기도 어렵고, 사람들에게도 인기가 없기 때문입니다.

마지막으로, 좁은 문은 내가 스스로 선택해야 하는 문입니다. 하나님은 우리를 강제로 끌고 가지 않으십니다. 우리를 사랑하시기 때문입니다. 세상에는 많은 문이 있지만, 예수님께서 가셨던 그 길을 따라가기로 스스로 결심한 사람만이 좁은 문으로 들어갈 수 있습니다.

오늘 하루도 우리는 좁은 문을 향해 나아가야 합니다. 내 삶의 불필요한 것들을 내려놓고, 외롭더라도 예수님만 바라보며, 하나님의 사랑을 믿고, 마음으로 결단해야 합니다. 그래서 우리 모두가 좁은 문을 지나 생명으로 나아가길 바랍니다.

기도

하나님, 저를 넓은 문으로 부르는 세상의 유혹들을 물리쳐 주시고, 좁은 문으로 인도하여 주시옵소서. 아멘.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But the gate is narrow and the road is difficult that leads to life, and few find it.” (vv. 13–14)

Jesus tells those who believe in him and follow him to enter through “the narrow gate.” We can meditate on the meaning of the narrow gate in several ways.

First, to pass through the narrow gate, we must lighten our load. If the gate were wide enough for a car, we could drive through with everything we wanted and like piled inside. But to enter through the narrow gate, we must keep only what is truly necessary and let go of what is unnecessary—giving it up and throwing it away.

Second, to enter through the narrow gate, we must endure loneliness. The road to the wide gate is popular, and many people want to walk it together. But the road to the narrow gate is narrow and rough, making it hard to walk together, and it is not popular with people.
Finally, the narrow gate is a gate we must choose for ourselves. God does not drag us along by force, because God loves us. There are many gates in this world, but only those who decide for themselves to follow the path Jesus walked can enter through the narrow gate.

Even today, we must move toward the narrow gate. We must lay down what is unnecessary in our lives, fix our eyes on Jesus even when we feel alone, trust in God’s love, and make a decision in our hearts. May we all pass through the narrow gate and move on to life.

Prayer
God, drive away the temptations of this world that call me toward the wide gate, and lead me through the narrow gate. Amen.

구하라 그리하면 너희에게 주실 것이요 찾으라 그리하면 찾아낼 것이요 문을 두드리라 그리하면 너희에게 열릴 것이니(7)

예수님은 구하고, 찾고, 문을 두드리라고 말씀하십니다. 그런데 우리가 구하고 찾고 문을 두드리는 것이 세상의 만족이나 물질, 성공이라면, 그 모든 것을 다 가진 후에는 더 이상 구할 것도, 찾을 것도, 애써 문을 두드릴 필요도 없게 됩니다. 기도할 이유가 없어지고, 형식적이 됩니다. 하나님이 필요 없게 됩니다.

그런데 예수님이 11절에서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “너희가 악한 자라도 좋은 것으로 자식에게 줄 줄 알거든 하물며 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서 구하는 자에게 좋은 것으로 주시지 않겠느냐.” 예수님께서 말씀하고 싶으셨던 것은 “너희가 열심히 구하면 원하는 것을 받게 될 것이다”가 아니라, “너희의 기도를 들으시는 분이 하나님, 너희의 아버지이시다”입니다. 즉, 예수님은 우리가 원하는 것을 얻는 ‘방법’에 대해 말씀하시는 것이 아니라, 하나님과 우리 사이의 ‘관계’에 대해 말씀하고 계신 것입니다.

오늘 우리가 내가 원하는 것, 바라는 것, 필요한 것보다 하나님이 나의 아버지가 되셔서 나를 돌봐주신다는 사실, 그 ‘관계’에 더 집중하는 하루가 되길 바랍니다.

기도
하나님, 나의 필요와 만족보다 하나님이 나의 아버지 되심에 집중하며 감사하는 마음을 주시옵소서. 아멘.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” (v.7)

Jesus tells us to ask, to seek, and to knock. But if what we are asking for, seeking, and knocking for is the world’s satisfaction—material things or success—then once we have it all, there will be nothing left to ask for, nothing to seek, and no need to keep knocking. Prayer loses its purpose and becomes merely a formality. We begin to feel as if we no longer need God.

But in verse 11, Jesus says this: “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” What Jesus wanted to say was not, “If you ask hard enough, you will get what you want,” but rather, “The One who hears your prayers is God—your Father.” In other words, Jesus is not teaching us a “method” for getting what we want; he is teaching us about the “relationship” between God and us.

Today, I pray that we will focus less on what we want, hope for, or need, and more on this truth: God is our Father who cares for us—and on that relationship.

Prayer
God, give us hearts that are thankful and focused not on our needs and satisfaction, but on the truth that You are our Father. Amen.
